Our famous Indianapolis 500 race will take place this year on May 27th, in its usual spot the day before Memorial Day. As many of you know, it is a massive and grand Indiana tradition, one with such pageantry as the honoring of our servicemen and women, the Gordon Pipers, the renditions of God Bless America and Back Home Again In Indiana, the balloon release, and the everlasting call for the drivers to start their engines.
Our newest May tradition, the IndyCar Grand Prix, is run on the twisty road course at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Introduced in 2014, this race is more laid back and very suitable for families to bring a picnic meal, a cooler full of beverages, and blankets and chairs to sit on the lawns and watch the race go by. The race is this Saturday, May 12th, and is a perfect way to introduce children to IndyCar racing. Make plans for your family to head down to Speedway this Saturday to see the IndyCar Grand Prix live. Also, don’t forget to enjoy all the other varied city-wide events Indianapolis is holding in celebration of our famous month of May.
