What's a Sesamoid?

Sesamoids are two little bones that sit underneath the big toe joint or more specifically the first metatarsal phalangeal joint.  Although these bones are small, they can contribute to much discomfort.  Conditions such as sesamoiditis and capsulitis where inflammation exists around the sesamoids.  Sesamoid fractures can be difficult to treat and manage and can lead to excision of the sesamoid as well at some point.  If you are having pain under the big toe joint/ball of foot give our experts at Indiana Podiatry Group a call.
