So many times, I have patients that ask if their toenail fungus was caused by getting a pedicure at the salon. While not all instances are true, fungal toenails may develop from the uncleanliness from a pedicure. 2 weeks ago, Anderson Cooper discussed the safety hazards at nail salons. In fact a fellow podiatrist was in the audience discussing the chance occurrence that nail salons can be the cause of toenail fungus.
Toenail fungus lives in warm, moist environments. Small cuts in the skin or separation of the nail bed from the nail can allow the fungus to enter. This fungus can cause problems only if your nails are continually exposed.
Many times, nail salons offer ways to prevent the further spread of infection. Some provide the necessary supplies assigned to the customer only and are not used by other customers. Other salons provide information on the procedures of the cleaning of utensils and sterilization processes.
It becomes the customer’s responsibility to check into the precautions taken at these nail salons to ensure preventive measures for nail fungus. If you do believe you may have this issue, please do no hesitate to contact us at Indiana Podiatry Group.
Is this normal toe nail fungas? What can I use to make my toenails normal? Will it work being I had it for probaly at least 15-20 years? Please help
