Why are my feet so dry?

If you have been diagnosed with Diabetes, you know that it can effect everything in your body.  We see changes to nerves, eyes, kidneys, blood vessels, immune system, etc.  One of the earliest symptoms that we see in patient's feet that have been diagnosed with diabetes is excessively dry feet.  The reason for this is that our entire bodies are controlled by nerves.  This includes the sweat glands in the feet.  You hear a lot about neuropathy and we know elevated blood sugars will decrease the ability for nerves to function properly.  As this effects the sweat glands we typically see patient's whose feet are much more dry.  It is very important if you have diabetes to apply a good Urea based moisturizing cream on a regular basis.
