May Is Melanoma Awareness Month

People always ask,  Skin Cancer??? On my feet???  Really???

The answer is a resounding "YES!"  Hard to imagine, but skin cancer very often shows up on the feet before other areas. Melanoma is a common and increasingly deadly form of cancer.  The good news is that, if caught early, it is also one of the most treatable cancers.  The problem is that people often do not look closely at their feet, especially the bottoms.  It is not uncommon for a Podiatrist to identify "atypical" growths or discolorations before the patient even realizes it.  Also, people often are aware of common things like birthmarks, moles, warts, etc., but not that they can suddenly change and become more serious. So, in honor of Melanoma awareness week, please take a few seconds to look at your feet, top, and bottom (And don't forget to look between your toes) and report ANY growths, discolorations, or skin changes of any kind.  A simple biopsy could save your life.
